CAREGIVER LEAVE

MITRE understands the importance of supporting our employees in their personal lives, especially when it comes to caring for loved ones. Whether caring for an aging family member or facing other caregiving responsibilities, we are committed to helping you navigate this journey.

ELIGIBILITY

All benefits-eligible employees can take Caregiver Leave to provide care for a qualifying family member.

Qualifying family members are as follows, in relation to the employee, as a:

  • Spouse
  • Domestic Partner as certified by signed affidavit
  • Parent (including in-laws and stepparents)
  • Brother (including in-laws and stepbrothers)
  • Sister (including in-laws and stepsisters)
  • Grandparent (including in-laws and step-grandparents)
  • Niece or nephew
  • Aunt or uncle
  • Child (birth, step, foster, adopted, or legal placement or guardianship)
  • Grandchild
  • Person acting in-loco-parentis

DURATION AND COMPENSATION

You are eligible for up to 12 weeks away from work per benefit year. Caregiver Leave can be taken consecutively, for 12 weeks at a time, or intermittently in hourly increments.

PTOB may be used to supplement leave to 100% of pay and will continue to accrue while on any MITRE leave. You must have a positive PTOB balance to supplement your pay.

Unpaid Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) job-protected leave, and any state family leave laws, will also run concurrently for 12 weeks for FMLA-eligible employees.

STARTING THE LEAVE PROCESS

An employee must provide notice of the need for leave as soon as possible and practical. To request Caregiver Leave, fill out the necessary documents through Matrix at www.matrixabsence.com or by calling 888-256-3921. You may not request an absence more than 45 days prior to the start of your anticipated leave. An employee and health care physician/practitioner must complete a request to describe the nature of the leave. After the request has been completed, a medical certification will be due every six months.

REQUESTING AND MANAGING PAID PARENTAL AND CAREGIVER LEAVE

To request leave through Matrix, you can file a claim 24/7/365 by going online to www.matrixabsence.com or by calling 888-256-3921.

PREPARE

Get ready with some basic information including your name, address, telephone number, and the last four digits of your Social Security number. Other information to have on hand is:

  • Job title
  • Job description
  • Workplace location and address
  • Work schedule
  • Supervisor’s name and telephone number
  • Last day worked
  • Nature of the illness or injury
  • Each treating provider’s name, address, telephone, and fax number

WHEN YOU’RE READY TO FILE A CLAIM

To request leave through Matrix, you can file a claim 24/7/365 by going online to www.matrixabsence.com or by calling 888-256-3921.

Once you submit all necessary documentation, Matrix will notify you within two days through eCall or text.

REVIEW OF YOUR CLAIM

Matrix will contact MITRE and your medical providers to gather documentation and confirm your leave. You will receive an eCall or text within 48 hours of the request for claim confirming and notifying when documentation has been received.

Once all necessary documentation has been received, you will be notified about whether your request was approved or denied.

DOWNLOAD THE MATRIX APP

Easily track your paperwork and leave updates through the Matrix Absence Management mobile app. From there, you can:

  • Manage, report, and review absences and claims
  • Upload medical documentation through your camera
  • Sign necessary documents
  • Receive status updates

ONCE YOUR CLAIM IS APPROVED

Once your claim is approved, Matrix will provide a claim update to you, your supervisor, and the Absence Management team.
