HOW MITRE BENEFITS WORK WITH FEDERAL & STATE BENEFITS

Several states provide their own paid medical and family leave benefits. These programs run concurrently with all other legally mandated leaves such as FMLA. And, if you work in a state that provides paid medical leave or family leave benefits, the MITRE paid leave benefits may be offset by amounts that you are eligible to receive from the state.

THE FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE ACT (FMLA)

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid job-protected leave for the following reasons:

  • Upon the birth of a child or placement for adoption or foster care
  • Care for a child, spouse, or parent with a serious health condition
  • Reasons related to a family member’s service in the military such as exigency leave
  • Your own serious health condition
